The Land Use and Food Policy Intergroup (LUFPIG) in the European Parliament is a long standing informal Intergroup. LUFPIG brings together interested Members of the EP from different nationalities, political groups and Committees.
LUFPIG members stand for an innovative, productive, sustainable and internationally competitive European agriculture that empowers and supports the EU agri-food community and benefits society at large.
LUFPIG provides a forum that supports debates between MEPs, representatives of the European Commission, Member States and other international, EU or national institutions, as well as relevant third parties, on the many and related issues surrounding technology and innovation, a productive, internationally and competitive sustainable EU agriculture, food production and land use.
At the beginning of each Parliament’s mandate LUFPIG members appoint a Chair and Vice-Chairs (currently the Chair is Mr. Olekas). The Chair in consultation with the Steering Committee decides on the relevant topics to be discussed every year. To organise its meetings, enlarge the membership and work on specific needs of the group the Steering Committee is supported by an external Coordinator (Dario Ruivo) to facilitate achieving its objectives. We are registered in the EU Transparency Register (002861430113-81) and comply with all the rules foreseen for unofficial groupings at the Rules of Procedure (rule 35) from the European Parliament.
Third parties that share the Vision and Mission of LUFPIG may participate in meetings upon invitation. Third parties financially support the organisation of LUFPIG meetings and the financial contribution depends on the type of third parties:
- Industry and trade organisations (currently: Bayer, Bunge, Croplife Europe and Euroseeds)
- Think tanks, NGOs, research institutes and others
Any third party participating to LUFPIG exchanges must be registered in the EU Transparency Register. Registration shall be verified annually by the Steering Committee on the base of information supplied by the external Coordinator.
